Come join the UBC IM POCUS team for a 2 day hands on workshop packed with high-yield POCUS applications, expert instruction, and tons of probe time!

The Basics Course has been designed for physicians working in acute care medicine, though the applications covered within are widely applicable to a range of practice settings. This course is suitable for both novice and intermediate skill sets. To maximize scanning time, it includes both a hands-on scanning component and flipped classroom pre-course online learning modules. The expert faculty is comprised of UBC internal medicine POCUS leaders with years of clinical and teaching experience.

The Basics Course will focus on core POCUS applications relevant to common acute care problems such as hypoxia, hypotension, liver disease, and acute kidney injury. POCUS applications will include the inferior vena cava (IVC), jugular venous pressure (JVP), lung ultrasound, abdominal scanning for free fluid and urinary retention, and basic cardiac scanning. The course also focuses on high-yield pearls, common pitfalls, and integration of scans into common clinical scenarios.

Whether you're a beginner wanting to gain confidence with basic applications, or an existing POCUS user who wants to become more proficient and confident in core clinical skills, the Basics Course is a fantastic opportunity to hone your skills.

Feel free to reach out to katiewiskar@gmail.com with any questions. We hope to see you there!
